I am a Professor of History at the University of Texas at Austin where I also hold an appointment by courtesy in the Department of Population Health at the Dell Medical School.
My research and teaching addresses the history and sociology of science, medicine and technology. Current projects include history of textiles and history of pharmaceuticals in global public health.
I am the author of Bitter Roots: The Search for Healing Plants in Africa and Atomic Junction: Nuclear Power in Africa after Independence.
I received my PhD and AB from the Department of the History of Science at Harvard University where I was also a postdoctoral scholar at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies.
