The history of dyes growing from my interest in the history of plants. Experiments with natural dyes and proreactive dyes to make batiks and patterns. Two decades of taking classes and workshops in Oakland, Berkeley, Austin, and Accra continue to inspire creativity.

Sewing started for me with my mother, watching her piece together patches and patterns. Growing up with Mennonite women in Pennsylvania who taught me how to quilt on a community frame. Time in Ghana where women made me garments to measure. Blending into my own sewing practice where I stitch together a lot of my clothing.

Teaching about textiles to university and K-12 students through school outreach opportunities. Giving young people in Texas a hands-on experience to engage with the history and practice of African textiles.
